From Bad to Worse

In the book of James, the author warns that even the best of Biblical teachers will stumble and from time to time and teach false things.

Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.  For we all stumble in many ways.  If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.  James 3: 1 – 2

In addition to the incorrect teachings that come from well-intentioned pastors, who are otherwise fine and true servants are Christ, the Scripture also warns us that the church will be attacked by false prophets and false teachers, masquerading as Christians.

But evil men and imposters will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.  2 Timothy 3: 13
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.  1 John 4: 1
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.  Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words…2 Peter 2: 1 – 3

Between the false teachings of good teachers and the wicked teachings of heretics and wolves, the average Christian must always be on the look out for the latest heresy and they must be prepared to defend the truth.

The posts on this site categorized as “From Bad to Worse” are intended to help promote an awareness of false teachings and/or false teachers in the church today.
